Texas Holdem Odds

Texas Holdem poker is one of the easiest games to learn amongst several others like Omaha High or7 Stud, which can get quite complicated with the calculation of odds and counting of cards. The nuances of the Holdem can be grasped quickly even if you are a novice and leant just as quick if you continue to practice. Let’s see how the game of Texas Holdem is played:
The betting structure is quite varied. Most games start with two players to the left of the dealer placing a predefined amount of money, which gets the initial ball rolling. This is called posting the blinds. Sometimes even antes are used. Holdem is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The dealer shuffles and deals two cards called hole or pocket cards face down. This is followed by a round of betting, starting with the person to the left of the two who posted the blinds. This is referred to as the pre-flop. The betting amount depends on the game and the players can check, raise or fold. Thereafter, the dealer discards the top card of the deck called the burncard. This is done to prevent cheating.

The dealer then serves the next three cards face up on the table. These cards are called the flop and are communal cards that anyone can use in combination with their two pocket cards to form a poker hand. This is followed by another round of betting starting with the player to the left of the dealer. After the betting rounds ends, the dealer burns another card and flips one more onto the table This sixth card called the turn card can be used by the players to form a five card poker hand. The player to the left of the dealer begins another round of betting.

Lastly, the dealer burns a card and places a final card face up on the table. This is called the river. Players can now use any of the five cards on the table or the two cards in their pocket to form a five card poker hand. There is one final round of betting after which all the remaining players begin to reveal their hands. This begins with the player to the left of the last player to call and is called the showdown. Players use a combination of their pocket cards and the community cards to form a poker hand. Obviously, the player who shows the best hand wins! If two players have equal hands, the winnings are shared.
